Shell Pattern Cap

  • The Shell Pattern Cap pattern is a dainty close-fitting hat, worked in a delicate, all-over lacy crochet pattern commencing at the crown. Increasing repeats of the lace pattern create the cap shape which can easily be made deeper as required. The tight-fitting skull cap style of hat was very popular in the 1920s when this pattern was first published and were often crocheted rather than knitted.

Shell Pattern Cap is crocheted using Susan Crawford Excelana North, fingering weight a soft, fingering weight 100% British wool, spun for us in nearby Yorkshire and dyed in-house by Susan and her team.

Shell Pattern Cap is shown here in shade Sheffield Steel.
