A simple knit, the Constant Companion cardigan knits up quickly and is both an enjoyable knit for seasoned knitters and also a great introduction to Fair Isle knitting for beginners. Susan was inspired to recreate a favourite cardigan that she has worn for many years. Constant Companion is the result. The simple elegant shape and beautiful yoke make this a cardigan you will reach for again and again.
The cardigan is knitted in one piece from the bottom up, and is written to be worked back and forth until it is joined together into the round to knit the Fair Isle yoke. At this point a small steek section is worked and serves as a great starting point for anyone scared of steeking.
Constant Companion is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North Lightweight DK and is shown here in two colourways;
Colourway One is worn by Susan and uses Cherry as the main colour with the yoke using mini-skeins of Olea, Tansey and Snowdrop.
Colourway Two worn by Charlie is knitted using Olea a striking olive green as the main colour with the yoke using mini skeins of Snowdrop, Tansey and Emmeline
Choose your colourway, simply decide which size kit you require. There are four kit sizes, each providing enough yarn to knit a range of pattern sizes:
Kit Size One (to fit 71-97cm (28-38in) chest): To knit either 1st, 2nd or 3rd pattern sizes includes 4 x 100g skeins of Excelana North DK in yarn A, plus matching mini-skein yarn bundle for the yoke.
Kit Size Two (to fit 102-117cm (40-46in) chest): To knit either 4th or 5th pattern sizes includes 5 x 100g skeins of Excelana North DK in yarn A plus matching mini-skein yarn bundle for the yoke.
Kit Size Three (to fit 122-137cm (48-54in) chest): To knit either 6th or 7th pattern sizes includes 6 x 100g skeins of yarn A plus matching mini-skein yarn bundle for the yoke.
Kit Size Four (to fit 142-157cm (56-62in) chest): To knit the 8th or 9th pattern sizes includes 7 x 100g skeins of Excelana North DK in yarn A, plus matching mini-skein yarn bundle for the yoke.
