The Dodie cardigan was inspired by the author Dodie Smith (1896-1990), and it can be worn on its own or as a twinset with the Mortmain sweater for maximum vintage appeal. Dodie is a traditional yoke cardigan knit in the round bottom up with a centre-front steek. The lower body is knit first up to the armholes, then both sleeves are knit, and finally the body and sleeves are joined together to form the yoke. On a number of rounds at the centre of the pattern, three colours are worked on a round. These rounds can be worked either by knitting with three colours, or duplicate stitch can be worked after the knitting is finished to add the third shade.
Dodie is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North Lightweight DK and is shown here in two colourways, using the same shades in different combinations;
Colourway One features Trefusis a deep, dark green as the main colour with the yoke and decorative sleeves also using Virginia, Sheffield Steel and Snowdrop.
Colourway Two features Virginia a striking art deco green as the main colour with the yoke and decorative sleeves also using Trefusis, Sheffield Steel and Snowdrop.
Yarn kits are available in five sizes to 71-157 cm (28-62 in) chest as follows:
Kit Size One: To fit sizes 71 to 86cm (28-34in) chest, includes 4 X 100g skeins of main shade plus 4 X 25g mini skeins in contrast shades.
Kit Size Two: To fit sizes 92 to 97cm (36-38in) chest, includes 5 X 100g skeins of main shade plus 5 X 25g mini skeins in contrast shades.
Kit Size Three: To fit sizes 102 to 107cm (40-42in) chest, includes 5 X 100g skeins of main shade plus 6 X 25g mini skeins in contrast shades.
Kit Size Four: To fit sizes 112 to 127cm (44-50in) chest, includes 6 X 100g skeins of main shade plus 6 X 25g mini skeins in contrast shades.
Kit Size Five: To fit sizes 132 to 157cm (52-62in) chest, includes 7 X 100g skeins of main shade plus 5 X 25g mini skeins in contrast shades.
