Hi, I'm Susan and I run Susan Crawford Vintage with the help of my husband, Gavin and my daughter, Charlie. We live on a small tenant farm in the North Lancashire hills and it is from here we operate our small independent yarn, design and publishing company.
My passions for knitting, wool, fashion history and books are the threads that tie the separate areas of the business together; and sustainable, ethical, traceable, inclusive, slow fashion is at the core of everything we do.
A love of vintage knits paired with a lack of patterns to fit my size or shape began a career which has revolved around the recreation and rewriting of vintage patterns along with creating my own designs with a vintage aesthetic but to suit all shapes and sizes.
After a diagnosis of stage three breast cancer in 2016, a double mastectomy followed and this led me on the path to my latest design collection, Evolution, which explores my coming to terms with the changes and how to include my vastly different body shape within my designs.
I design with our my own yarn ranges using British breed sheep and spun in UK based mills. I also work with local farmers to create breed-specific yarns and have a small flock of rare and primitive breed sheep kept specifically for their wool.
When you make a purchase from Susan Crawford Vintage you are supporting a small, family farm that in turn supports the historic British yarn industry and puts its heart and soul into everything we create.
