Plaid features traditional waistcoat shaping of shaped lower front edgings and side shaping. Plaid is knitted flat in separate pieces and then sewn together with bands knitted separately and then sewn into place. Horizontal stripes are worked throughout with vertical stripes added after completion, by embroidering contrasting stripes of chain stitch up the length of the waistcoat as shown. Alternatively, the vertical stripes can be omitted with the waistcoat looking great as a simple horizontally striped piece.

Plaid is knitted in Excelana North fingering weight yarn, 100% British wool, using wool from Northern England and the Scottish Borders and spun at a nearby Yorkshire mill. This fingering weight (4 Ply) yarn is soft to the touch and creates a beautiful stocking stitch fabric. The main shade used is Limestone plus the fabulous shades of Siren, English Mustard and Land Army Green for the bold horizontal stripes plus Charcoal and Cornflower Blue.
