Fair Isle Yoke

  • The Fair Isle Yoke pattern was first published in 1946 and is a beautiful example of this type of sweater. It is also a great introduction for anyone wishing to try colourwork knitting for the first time as this is only worked on the upper front yoke. The sweater is knitted in stocking stitch throughout with increases worked at the side seams for a shapely fit. The sweater has short puff sleeves and a high neck fastened with a button at one side of the neck. Charted instructions are provided for the colourwork pattern.

Fair Isle Yoke is knitted in a choice of two yarns. We have used Susan Crawford Wold 2 Ply Fingering Weight in Oatmeal with contrasting shades of Evergreen, Cornflower , Pompium, Genisteae, Magellanica and Heliotrope.

Alternatively it can also be knitted in Excelana North fingering weight yarn Susan Crawford Excelana North in Limestone with contrasting shades of Land Army Green, English Mustard, Dark Mandarin, French Rose, Cornflower Blue and Damson Wine.

Our model Miranda is shown wearing the fourth size to fit chest 102-107cm (40-42in).

The pattern includes instructions for six sizes to fit chest measurements between 81cm (32in) and 127cm (50in) and contains both clear written pattern directions, together with charted instructions for the colourwork pattern; plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart.
