The Brontë shawl is Susan's love letter to the Brontë sisters, the novelists Emily, Charlotte and Anne. The Brontës lived in the 19th century, at a time when shawls were a staple outer garment in a woman's wardrobe: everyday shawls would be knitted from hand-spun wool and made large enough to wrap around the body. The Brontë shawl is reminiscent of this type of large triangular shawl and uses different techniques, such as traditional lace stitch patterns, stripes and colourwork. Tassels add a decorative, luxurious flourish to the shawl.

Brontë is knitted using Susan Crawford Byre, a fingering weight yarn that is delightfully lofty and soft, created from a blend of Jacobs and Shetland fibres spun exclusively for us in a nearby Yorkshire mill.

Brontë is shown here in two colour ways.

Colourway One:
Rock Pool, Undergrowth and Red Sky At Night.

Colourway Two:
Moss Covered Wall, Plum Jam and Ragwort.

You can now purchase our hand-dyed yarn kit to create your own stunning Bronte. Each kit contains five 100gm skeins of Byre, 3 100g skeins of the main colour, Rock Pool or Moss Covered Wall plus 1 100g skein each of the two additional colours.

Choose from either of the two colourways shown or alternatively choose the 'custom' option to select three shades of your choice from the beautiful range of colours in Byre.
