Our Lake District Retreat Venue: Thorney How
Thorney How is situated on the outskirts of the village of Grasmere, which is located in the Lake District, in the North West of England. The Lake District is a UNESCO world heritage site and a National Park, with stunning countryside, high fells and deep lakes which have been the inspiration for artists, writers and poets for generations.
Much of the area is owned and managed by the National Trust, a private organisation to which Beatrix Potter bequethed 4000 acres of land and 14 farms on her death. Other noteable residents of and visitors to the Lake District are William and Dorothy Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge, John Ruskin, J.M.W. Turner and many more. Susan takes her inspiration for the bespoke projects provided for the retreats from this same landscape.
Thorney How is a Georgian stone-built property, nestled in the Lake District countryside above the village of Grasmere. Recently renovated to offer a nuturing space specifically for retreats, our venue has everything we need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The house sits in its own grounds with picnic benches and seating or our exclusive use. There is also a large parking area to the front of the property for retreat attendees only. During the duration of our stay, we have exclusive use of the building and its grounds. Sheep can be seen in neighbouring fields and the property enjoys stunning views.
The elegant property benefits from full central heating throughout as well as log-burning stoves to keep us warm and cozy. Comfy seating is provided where we can gather as well as a substantial area for teaching and dining. There are also ground floor toilet facilities near to the workshop area. A fully equipped utility area even means you can wash clothing if need by and a walk-in drying room for coats and boots is also provided.
The bedrooms are warm and exceptionally comfortable, with en-suite facilities including walk-in showers. All linens and towels are provided.
Our pop-up shop is located on the premises so you can spend as much time as you like, playing with yarns and trying on sample garments. We are also on hand to help you.
