Sample Itinerary for our Lake District Knitting Retreats
Autumn in the Lake District Knitting Retreat Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, this four night retreat is a chance to slow down, knit in the company of like minded people, and immerse yourself in the beauty and inspiration of Autumn/Spring in Cumbria. Over the course of your stay, you'll enjoy expert-led workshops, local excursions, delicious food and plenty of time to relax in a cosy and welcoming setting. Here's what you can expect during your time with us.
Day 1 - Monday: Arrival & Welcome
Arrive at Thorney How from late afternoon and settle into your comfortable room overlooking the garden and Lakeland fells. In the early evening, we'll gather together to meet as a group over a welcome glass of prosecco, before sharing our first delicious dinner - the perfect start to our week together.
Day 2 - Tuesday: Full Day Workshop
Today is a full day of learning and inspiration with Susan. After a leisurely breakfast, we'll begin our first workshop session, exploring colourwork techniques and casting on our projects. There will be plenty of time for questions, demonstrations and personalised guidance throughout the day, with plenty of breaks for tea, cake and a hearty lunch. In the afternoon, you'll be deep into your project and ready to relax into the rhythm of your knitting. We'll break in the late afternoon for a few hours of free time to walk, knit, or simply unwind. In the evening we'll come together again for dinner and another evening of knitting and conversation.
Day 3 - Wednesday: Assa Marra Studio Visit
We'll begin with breakfast before setting out for a special trip to Susan's riverside studio, where you'll enjoy a sock yarn dyeing workshop and the chance to shop Susans range of yarns and try on samples at Assa Marra Wool Studio. Lunch will be at your own leisure in one of the nearby cafes (we'll provide reccomendations). In the afternoon, we'll retreat to Thorney How for more relaxed knitting time or free time for a walk around Grasmere before dinner and a fireside trunk show from Susan.
Day 4 - Thursday: Heritage site & Finishing Touches
After breakfast, we'll head out to visit one of the Lake Districts inspiring properties, such as Dove Cottage, Allan Bank or Hill Top, enjoying a scenic excursion and a picnic lunch with a view. After a slow meander back to Thorney How, we'll spend the afternoon sharing our progress and adding the finishing touched to our project. The evening will be a celebratory one, will prosecco, a seasonal dinner and a fun knitting themed quiz to round off the retreat in style.
Day 5 - Friday: Farewell
On our final morning, enjoy breakfast before saying goodbye to new friends and the beautiful surroundings of Grasmere. Departure is by late morning.
