Chevron is already considered a vintage classic. It uses a simple lace chevron pattern worked in horizontal stripes over the lower body with a moss (seed) stitch upper yoke and sleeve heads. The sleeve stripes are deliberately narrower than the body. The upper yoke and sleeve heads are worked flat in moss stitch for both versions. The original version of the pattern is somewhat notorious for its exaggerated sleeve heads, which most knitters avoid making; taking this into account, we have instead opted for a slightly gathered sleeve head without any requirement for shoulder pads - although they can be added if desired.
Both options include instructions for a choice of three lengths, short, medium or long and both options provide instructions for 8 chest sizes to fit from 28-60 inches (71-152cm).
Chevron is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North fingering weight 100% British wool, spun for us in nearby Yorkshire and dyed in-house by Susan's daughter, Charlie. It is worsted spun for a soft handle from 3 plies of a stunning Cheviot and Bluefaced Leicester blend. It works exquisitely for lace stitches as well as textured stitches and stranded colourwork; responding well to blocking and holding its shape beautifully. Despite its softness, Excelana is a sturdy yarn that doesn't pill easily.
