CLARISSA YARN KITS USING OUR BEAUTIFUL HAND-DYED LOCK SOCK YARN ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO ORDER. The Clarissa sock pattern is part of a series of sock patterns designed by Tess Young, all inspired by the novel 'Mrs Dalloway' written by Virginia Woolf. To celebrate the release of the Clarissa yarn kit, you can now purchase a very special kit, including yarn, the PDF pattern and also a beautiful hard-back edition of 'Mrs Dalloway' aswell as a yarn-only kit or a yarn-and-PDF kit, which includes the PDF pattern.
The Clarissa socks are named after the title character of the book, in which we first meet Clarissa going to buy flowers for what has become perhaps the most famous party in modernist literature. Throughout the novel, Clarissa is a character portrayed with a certain delicate feminine beauty. She is both seen and remembered, as being most alive in the gardens of her childhood home. The Clarissa socks aim to reflect both the delicacy of Clarissa's nature, but also the strong pathways of her life.
The socks combine twisted stitches and organic lace motifs to capture this combination of elements and as a result are a fascinating knit. The lace patterning is intuitive once set, with the lace continuing through the toe to the end of the sock. The Clarissa socks are knitted from the cuff down and come in four sizes with both charted and written instructions included in the pattern.
You can now purchase our hand-dyed yarn kit to create your own pair of Clarissa socks which use 100gm skein of our hand-dyed Susan Crawford Lock a fingering weight sock yarn, worsted spun with a high twist making it perfect for socks. The Lonk fibre used for this wonderful sock yarn is from our small flock of Lonk sheep, a breed local to North Lancashire. The wool is combined with a small amount of nylon, to create the perfect fabric for socks. The yarn shows off texture, cables and lace to great effect and the fibre combination takes colour beautifully.
Clarissa socks are shown here in Chemise a delicate rose pink but can be knitted in any of our beautiful hand-dyed shades of Susan Crawford Lock with a wide range of colours inspired by non-other than the Bloomsbury set of which Virginia Woolf was a huge part.
