The Saharan Sands bandana is a pocket-size neckerchief perfect for rolling up in the smallest luggage when travelling, decorated in a knit-friendly intarsia pattern to create a delightful abstract design. Your kit includes ten colours including special shades inspired by Morocco; Sandstorm, Red Sky in the Morning, Red Sky at Night, Fields of Gold, Saharan Sand, Oasis, Earth, Chambray, Buttermilk and Night Sky.
ABOUT THE SAHARAN SANDS YARN KIT
Your kit contains ten hand-dyed shades of Bluem Baby yarn packaged in an SCV draw-string project bag. You can choose either a yarn-only kit or a yarn-plus-PDF kit, which includes the PDF pattern at a discount compared with purchasing the pattern and yarn separately.
In 2025, my daughter Charlie (our in-house hand-dyer) embarked on a six-day trek across the Moroccan Saharan desert to raise funds for the breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!, wearing her own Saharan Sands bandana, and you can now knit your own matching bandana using our gorgeous hand-dyed yarn.
The bandana is simple to knit - starting with the i-cord tie at one end before increasing at one side only until the desired number of stitches have been reached before decreasing at the same rate until the correct number of stitches remain to knit the second tie. The pattern is worked predominantly using basic intarsia techniques.
The Saharan Sands bandana is knitted using Susan Crawford Bluem Baby, our brand-new, fingering weight, superwash wool, spun from 100% British Bluefaced Leicester fleece. This soft yet hard-wearing and machine washable yarn is perfect for a project such as the Saharan Sands bandana, wonderfully comfortable against the skin, but lightweight and easy to care for. The superwash yarn takes colour beautifully creating bold, vibrant colours.

The Saharan Sands bandana was originally inspired by my daughter Charlie's walk across the Sahara, where she raised funds for CoppaFeel! who are the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity with a simple, life-saving mission: to help everyone get to know their bodies, check their chests once a month and seek help if something feels or looks different.
