Could Anything Be Prettier, as its name suggests, is a very feminine, pretty sweater - first published in the late 1930s and is knitted in an unusual combination of eyelet lace and stocking stitch. A separate frill - or jabot, is made which is attached to the centre front of the garment. The full short sleeves are knitted in the same contrasting stitch. The top is knitted in separate flat pieces which are then sewn together. The simple lace stitch for the dainty puffed sleeves and the lace interspersing the stocking stitch create a wonderfully airy fabric making this the perfect knit to wear on warmer days.
The pattern includes instructions for 5 sizes to fit chest measurements 76 - 122cm (30 - 48in) and is designed to be worn with a small amount of positive ease. The pattern contains clear written instructions plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart, together with clear charted instructions for the colourwork areas.
Could Anything Be Prettier is knitted using
Susan Crawford Fenella, a vintage 3 Ply weight wool, created to replicate the fine vintage yarns of this period. It is dyed in-house in a wide range of vintage shades and is shown here in Columbine.
