FAIR ISLE CARDIGAN YARN KITS USING OUR BEAUTIFUL HAND-DYED EXCELANA NORTH FINGERING WEIGHT, 100% BRITISH WOOL ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO ORDER WITH DISPATCH IN EARLY APRIL.
The Fair Isle Cardigan is a classic 1940s cardigan pattern, with a deep ribbed waistband, a shaped body with V-neck front opening and square shoulders emphasised with box-head sleeves and decorative colourwork panels on the upper front sections.
The Fair Isle Cardigan is knitted using Excelana North fingering weight yarn, a soft, 100% British wool spun for us in nearby Yorkshire and dyed in-house at our Lake District dye studio.
The Fair Isle Cardigan is knitted using a main shade with the fair isle yoke panels using five further shades. Our sample is shown in - Nile Green - a fabulously vintage mint green plus Persian Grey - a smokey grey, Powdered Egg - a soft yellow, Cornflower Blue - a denim blue, French Rose - a light but not pastel shade of pink plus Alabaster, the natural undyed shade of Excelana. All of the yarns have been hand dyed at our Lake District dye studio with many hours spent perfecting the colour palette for this vintage recreation. If you prefer to put together your own colour palette select Custom Colourway and let us know by email which beautiful shades of Excelana North you would like instead.
How to select your kit?
Choose from either the yarn only option or yarn plus PDF option and select the colourway as shown or choose custom colourway if you would prefer to choose your own colours. The kit comes in nine sizes to match the pattern sizes available. Please note there are two fit options for this cardigan, one offering a close fit the other what I have classed as a 'twinset' fit; this second option providing additional room in the cardigan to wear another knit underneath. If wanting the 'twinset' fit go up a kit size where the sizing overlaps. So for example if you have an 97cm (38in) chest and want to knit the twinset fit, select the kit for the 4th size rather than the 3rd size kit. See the sizing chart in the images above for further guidance on this.
