A Stitch in Time Vintage Knitting & Crochet Patterns, 1920-1949: Vol. 1

    • The A Knitted Waistcoat pattern was first published in 1947 and is an extremely useful garment knitted in a broken rib pattern. It is designed to be worn with negative ease and to fit close to the body. A nipped in waist is followed by increases at side seams until required chest stitch count is reached. If a less shaped fit is preferred, cast-on the chest stitch count and work straight to the underarm. The waistcoat is worked in separate flat pieces which are then sewn together.

A Knitted Waistcoat is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North, fingering weight a soft, fingering weight 100% British wool, spun for us in nearby Yorkshire. Knitted in shade Land Army Green which is dyed in-house by Susan and her team.

Our model Theodora is shown wearing the first size to fit chest 76-81cm (30-32in).

The pattern includes instructions for six sizes to fit chest measurements between 76cm (30in) and 132cm (52in) and contains clear written instructions plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart.
