Target Beret

  • The Target beret pattern is a real 1940s gem. It features a bold crown design plus a series of striking colourwork motifs on the body of the beret. Another unusual feature is a folded stocking stitch hem at the commencement of its brim, adding structure to the beret.

Originally knit flat, I have convereted the pattern to be knitted in the round with full colour charts to further simplify the knitting process. I have used colours which closely match the 1940s original pattern but this beret would look amazing in almost endless combinations!

Target is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North fingering weight a soft, fingering weight 100% British wool, spun for us in nearby Yorkshire and dyed in-house by Susan and her team. Shown here in shades Alabaster, Coral Lombard, Icelandic Moss, Sweet Chestnut and English Mustard.

Our model Charlie is shown wearing the first size To fit head circumference 45-50cm (18-20in).

The pattern includes instructions for three sizes to fit head circumference measurements between 45cm (18in) and 60cm (24in) and contains both clear written pattern directions, together with charted instructions for colour work instructions plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart.
