<Sayer is inspired by the character of Rose Sayer from the movie The African Queen, played by Katharine Hepburn. The primness of the character was cleverly emphasised by her high-necked Victorian-style blouse, with a layered, deep ruffled yoke. The shape of the blouse is reflected in this turtleneck sweater, with bands of coloured slip stitches replacing the lacy ruffles. Sayer is knitted in a heavy worsted-weight yarn, and the extra-long sleeves have a soft fullness to them. The sweater is worked from the top down. The work is divided at the underarm with the body and sleeves knitted separately.

Sayer is knitted using Susan Crawford Wold Worsted a plump heavy-worsted weight yarn, spun from a blend of 100% British wools, hand-dyed in a fabulous range of colours.

Sayer is shown here in two colour ways.
Colourway One worn by Susan uses shades:
Limestone, Trefusis, Foley, Swimming Pool, Tannin, Fitzroy and Orlando.

Colourway two worn by Ruth uses shades:
Grace, Garnet, Trefusis, Red Sky at Night, Moss Covered Wall, Edy and Orlando.

The kits are available in five sizes to fit from 32-62 inch chest as follows:

Kit Size One: To fit sizes 81 to 86cm (32-34in) includes 5 X 100g skeins of Wold Worsted in colour of your choice plus 6 x 25g skeins one in each of 6 shades for the slip-stitch yoke and sleeves.

Kit Size Two: To fit sizes 92 to 117cm (36-46in) includes 6 X 100g skeins of Wold Worsted in colour of your choice plus 6 x 25g skeins one in each of 6 shades for the slip-stitch yoke and sleeves.

Kit Size Three: To fit sizes 122 to 127cm (48-50in) includes 8 X 100g skeins of Wold Worsted in colour of your choice plus 6 x 25g skeins one in each of 6 shades for the slip-stitch yoke and sleeves.

Kit Size Four: To fit sizes 132 to 147cm (52-58in) includes 9 X 100g skeins of Wold Worsted in colour of your choice plus 6 x 25g skeins one in each of 6 shades for the slip-stitch yoke and sleeves.

Kit Size Five: To fit sizes 152 to 157cm (60-62in) includes 10 X 100g skeins of Wold Worsted in colour of your choice plus 6 x 25g skeins one in each of 6 shades for the slip-stitch yoke and sleeves.
