  • Sock Knitting for Beginners - Knit your first cuff down socks

    Saturday 13th September, 10.30 – 3.30

Learn how to knit your own socks with experienced teacher and sock knitter Tess Young. Tess will guide you through the techniques and principles of sock knitting in this full day workshop.

In this class we will cover all the elements you need to know to knit your first cuff-down sock. From a stretchy cast-on to make sure the sock fits over the widest part of your foot, to a sturdy slip stitch heel and well-fitting gusset, through to a beautifully grafted toe, you will learn all the techniques you need to knit socks with confidence.

During the day you will complete a mini-sock that will act as a template for your first full pair of socks, and will also receive a 100g skein of Susan Crawford sock yarn to knit a full pair of socks. Techniques will be demonstrated and you will also leave with a good understanding of sock anatomy, sizing, sock terminology and other useful information for your future sock making projects.

This full day class is suitable for intermediate knitters and also adventurous beginner knitters with a good grasp of basic knitting techniques and stitches.

This highly instructional class will show you:
    German Twisted Cast on
Knitting small circumferences in the round and with different needle options
    The anatomy of a sock
Turning a heel, picking up heel stitches and gusset decreases
    Toe shaping
    Grafting toe stitches together
