Vanessa Bell is perhaps best known as Virginia Woolf's older sister, but she was a talented artist and craftswoman in her own right. As a young woman she was expected to wear formal Victorian-style clothing, but Vanessa wanted to dress in a more organic way, wearing long, loose layers. The Vanessa jacket has an oversized fit, a soft, unstructured shape, deep pockets and simple fastenings - perfect for keeping off the chill in a cold artist's studio! It is worked by holding two strands of yarn together, creating a subtle, tweedy finish to the fabric. The jacket is knitted in pieces from the bottom up with short grown-on sleeves. The back is knitted in reverse stocking stitch and the fronts in stocking stitch.
Vanessa is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North and Susan Crawford Mist, knitted together.
Vanessa is shown here in two colourways. Colourway One uses shades Dock Seed (Excelana) and Clockwork (Mist).
Colourway Two using shades Dark As Night (Excelana) and Denim (Mist).
The kits are available in eight sizes to fit from 28-62 inch chest as follows:
Kit Size One:To fit sizes 71 to 76cm (28-30in) includes 5 X 50g skeins of Excelana North in colour of your choice plus 2 x 50g skeins of Mist in a coordinating hand-dyed shade.
Kit Size Two:To fit sizes 82 to 86cm (32-34in) includes 6 X 50g skeins of Excelana North in colour of your choice plus 2 x 50g skeins of Mist in a coordinating hand-dyed shade.
Kit Size Three:To fit sizes 92 to 97cm (36-38in) includes 7 X 50g skeins of Excelana North in colour of your choice plus 2 x 50g skeins of Mist in a coordinating hand-dyed shade.
Kit Size Four:To fit sizes 102 to 107cm (40-42in) includes 7 X 50g skeins of Excelana North in colour of your choice plus 3 x 50g skeins of Mist in a coordinating hand-dyed shade.
Kit Size Five:To fit sizes 112 to 117cm (44-46in) includes 8 X 50g skeins of Excelana North in colour of your choice plus 3 x 50g skeins of Mist in a coordinating hand-dyed shade.
