Barn

  • The Barn shawl is a simple and quick lace shawl, worked in Barn, a lofty DK/worsted weight yarn on large needles. This results in a light and airy yet snuggly, fabric, pleasing to knit and a joy to wear. The Barn shawl has been designed by Skeindeer Knits specifically for our 100% British, Barn yarn bringing out the beauty in this stunning yarn. The Barn shawl is a traditional triangular shape, incorporating a simple Estonian lace pattern repeated across the shawl  on either side of a central spine and set against a garter stitch background. This means every row is knitted and to make things even more straight forward, the lace pattern is worked on the right side of the work only. This is the perfect pattern for beginner lace knitters or knitters looking for a relaxing, easy shawl to knit! Both written and charted instructions are provided in the pattern so you can choose which type of instruction you would prefer to follow.

The Barn shawl uses 3 skeins of Barn, a natural soft-grey yarn, spun for us at a nearby Yorkshire mill from a unique blend of Jacobs and Shetland fibres. Barn is soft and lofty and a delight to knit with. Skeindeer has chosen to knit her shawl in Dry Stone Wall - the natural, undyed shade of Barn -  but it would look stunning in any of the 20-plus shades of hand-dyed Barn, dyed in-house by Susan and her team. You can see all the shades here.

The pattern contains both full written and charted instructions.
