This pattern can be purchased as an individual pattern, but it also available as part of
The Vintage Shetland Project
The sweater is knitted in Susan Crawford Fenella, which recreates the vintage 3 Ply weight yarn used in the 1940s original. A kit is also available in this yarn to recreate this stunning sweater.
The main body of the garment is worked in the round from the bottom up to the armhole divide. At this point, stitches are placed on waste yarn at the underarms and steek stitches added. Steek stitches are also added for back and front neck openings. The sleeves are also knitted in the round from the bottom up, with steek stitches worked at the sleeve head. The sleeves are then sewn into the main body. A zip or press fasteners can be sewn into the back neck opening for ease of fitting. Alternatively buttons and button loops can be attached.
Charts are read from right to left on every round. There is a chart for each size included in the pattern along with a corresponding Steek Chart. It is important to ensure you are working from the chart for the size you are knitting. Due to the length o the charts each size is split into two sections with the corresponding Steek Chart alongside. The sample shown in the photographs is the second size, worn with zero ease. It is suggested you choose a size with between 1cm (1/4in) of negative ease and 81/2cm (31/4in) of positive ease, depending on the fit desired.
