  • Annemor is an easy-to-wear, open front jacket with a relaxed, slightly boxy fit. It was inspired by the interweaving of Shetland and Norwegian knitting cultures as first revealed to me by Annemor Sundbo, a subject I then explored further in The Vintage Shetland Project.

The attractive colourwork edgings of the jacket were inspired by Suffragette from The Vintage Shetland Project which I have then paired with a traditional all-over Norwegian motif. The lower body is worked in the round from the bottom up with a steek at centre front. Before commencing the lower body a ribbed facing is worked which is later turned under and sewn in place to create a firm edging to prevent stretch and distortion. Once the armholes have been reached the work is divided and extra steeks added at the armholes. The shoulders are grafted together and then the sleeves are knitted downwards finishing with a matching smaller motif to the welt and a small ribbed facing. The front steek is cut open and stitches picked up around the front opening and then a highly decorative front band worked finished once more with ribbed facings.

Annemor is knitted in Excelana 4 ply, a fingering weight pure wool – which is a soft, yet durable yarn and perfect for colourwork. I decided to create a monochrome colour palette for drama and wearability, using a pale-greyish neutral - Limestone, plus three shades of grey from icy Sheffield Steel to deep Charcoal.

The Annemor jacket shown is the third size worn by Susan.
