The two colourways of the Gertrude vest were inspired by the work of Gertrude Jekyll, a garden designer who from 1881 until her death in 1932 designed more than 400 gardens. She pioneered the use of different colour schemes to create moods and atmosphere. Gertrude is a classic fitted vest featuring a Fair Isle-style pattern to the front and a corresponding check pattern to the back. The front neck has a low, round contour, reminiscent of 1970s tank tops. The vest knitted in the round from the bottom up. Steeks are added at the armhole and front neck.
Gertrude is knitted using Susan Crawford Byre, a fingering weight yarn that is delightfully lofty and soft, created from a blend of Jacobs and Shetland fibres spun exclusively for us in a nearby Yorkshire mill.

There are seven yarn kits to choose from to fit a range of sizes from 71-157 cm (28-62 in) chest as follows:
Colourway One: 1st-4th Sizes: To fit sizes 76-102cm (30-40in) chest, includes 1 X 100g skein of main shade plus 1 25g mini skeins of each of 10 contrast shades.
Colourway One: 5th-6th Sizes: To fit size 107-117cm (42-46in) chest, includes 2 X 100g skeins of main shade plus 1 25g mini skein of each of 10 contrast shades.
Colourway One: 7th-10th Sizes: To fit size 122-152cm (48-60in) chest, includes 2 X 100g skeins of main shade plus 2 25g mini skeins each of shade C, plus 1 25g mini skein each of remaining 9 contrast shades.
Colourway Two: 1st-2nd Sizes: To fit sizes 76 to 86cm (30-34in) chest, includes 1 X 100g skein of main shade plus 1 25g mini skein in each of 6 contrast shades.
Colourway Two: 3rd-4th Sizes: To fit size 92-102cm (36-40in) chest, includes 2 X 100g skein of main shade plus 2 25g mini skeins each of shades B, E and G, plus 1 25g mini skein in shades C, D and F.
Colourway Two: 5th-9th Sizes: To fit size 107-142cm (42-56in) chest, includes 2 X 100g skein of main shade plus 2 25g mini skeins each of shades B, C, D, E and G plus 1 25g mini skein in shade F.
