About Orchid: Orchid is an easy-to-wear, comfortable sweater featuring a beautiful lace yoke knitted in a fingering weight yarn. The sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up, on reaching the armholes the body is put to one side, then the sleeves are knitted, then the body and sleeves are joined together and worked in one piece, in the round. Short row shaping is worked on the upper back section of the body ensuring the front neckline doesn't sit too high. Once the short rows are completed the lace yoke is then worked. This simple, 12 stitch lace pattern creates a striking orchid petal outline. The body is unshaped, its finished length designed to sit roughly on the hip bone; however it can simply be knitted shorter or longer depending on the finished length preferred. To shorten the upper body, fewer rounds can be worked before commencing the lace yoke, avoiding any complicated changes.
Orchid is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North, fingering weight a soft, fingering weight 100% British wool, spun for us in nearby Yorkshire and dyed in-house by Susan and her daughter, Charlie at A Room Of My Own dye studio.
Orchid is shown here in Coral Lombard a slightly soft shade of red with just a hint of orange, it’s a vibrant yet not overwhelming shade.

1st size - 5 50g skeins of your chosen colourway - to fit 71-76cm (28-30in) chest (1st size in the Orchid pattern)
2nd size - 6 50g skeins of your chosen colourway - to fit 81-86cm (32-34in) chest (2nd size in the Orchid pattern)
3rd size - 7 50g skeins of your chosen colourway - to fit 91-107cm (36-42in) chest (3rd and 4th sizes in the Orchid pattern)
4th size - 8 50g skeins of your chosen colourway - to fit 112-117cm (44-46in) chest (5th size in the Orchid pattern)
5th size - 9 50g skeins of your chosen colourway - 122-127cm (48-50in) chest (6th size in the Orchid pattern)
6th size - 10 50g skeins of your chosen colourway - 132-147cm (52-58in) chest (7th and 8th sizes in the Orchid pattern)
7th size - 11 50g skeins of your chosen colourway - 152-157cm (60-62in) chest (9th size in the Orchid pattern)
