    • Dorothy is a recreation of a mid-twentieth century sweater located in the Shetland Museum and was recreated as part of The Vintage Shetland Project. Dorothy is an elegant but easy-to-wear, boat-necked sweater, with a deep lace panel on the upper body which is drawn into the neck band with an effective eyelet band. In addition the slightly relaxed fit makes this sweater an extremely versatile piece.

Dorothy is knitted in Susan Crawford Fenella, perfect for recreating vintage knits such as this stylish sweater. Dorothy has been knitted using Jonquil, a warm, golden-mustard, similar to that used for the original piece. A kit is also available in this yarn to recreate this striking sweater.

Dorothy is knitted either flat or in the round up to the armhole. If knitted in the round, it is then divided and the front and back lace yokes are then knitted separately, back and forth. The two sections are then joined together again and the eyelet pattern is worked in the round followed by the neck band. Two sets of instructions are provided for knitting the lower body. The sleeves are then picked up around the armholes and after a matching eyelet pattern is worked the remainder of the sleeves are knitted in the round in stocking stitch, ending just below the elbow.

A chart is provided for the lace panel; right side rows should be read from right to left and wrong side rows from left to right. The sample shown in the photographs is the sixth size, worn on a petite model with approximately 25cm (10in) of positive ease. It is suggested that for a more 'standard' fit you choose a size with approximately 9-13cm (4-5in) of positive ease. The pattern comes in 12 sizes to fit from 28-50in (71-127cm) chest with an update due shortly to increase the sizing to fit 60in (152cm).

A yarn kit is available to accompany this pattern.

The pattern contains written instructions plus a chart for the lace panel as well as a clear schematic diagram.
