    • The Maggy pattern is a versatile colourwork waistcoat perfect for layering over dresses, blouses or t-shirts.

Maggy was inspired by the simple, geometric recurring motifs found in Margaret, from The Vintage Shetland Project. I have used just two motifs throughout. Rather than create another cardigan, I decided to create a colourwork waistcoat, providing warmth when needed but easy to remove when the temperature increases. The bands and welt are knitted in moss (seed) stitch echoing the finishing touches found on Vaila and creating a neat, stylish edge. Buttons are added purely for decoration with press fasteners also used.

Maggy is knitted in the round from the bottom up with a centre front steek worked throughout and additional armhole steeks are added when required. The shoulders are grafted together before bands are picked up and worked.

Three lengths of waistcoat are provided from with further information given to customise the length even further if required.

The yarn used is Byre, a soft, fingering weight blend of Jacobs and Shetland fibres spun exclusively for us in a nearby Yorkshire mill. We have hand dyed four of the five shades to create a rich, autumnal palette of plums, golds and greens.

Susan is shown wearing the 5th size, short length with 9cm (3.5in) of ease.

Maggy includes instructions for ten sizes between 28 inch (70cm) and 62 inch (157cm) chest and contains clear written instructions and full colour charts, plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart.
