Jocosa is a delightful circular yoked sweater with a stranded colourwork pattern on the yoke and above the cuff. The gently curved neckline is extremely flattering and this easy-to-wear sweater would look equally good in either a vintage or contemporary wardrobe. I have written the updated pattern for Jocosa to be knitted from the top down, with a classic circular yoke. Once the yoke has been completed, short rows are worked to shape the back of the sweater, then the sleeve stitches are separated from the body before each are worked separately. Our multi-sized pattern includes 17 sizes to fit from 28-62inch (71-157cm) chest and has three lower body lengths. Charlie is shown wearing the 5th size designed for 97cm (38in) chest but worn with 15cm (6in) of positive ease for a more relaxed fit.
Jocosa is knitted using Susan Crawford Byre, a fingering (4 ply) weight yarn which is spun from 100% British wool at a nearby mill in Yorkshire held together throughout with Mist — a mohair / silk, laceweight yarn throughout. Pairing these two yarns together creates a soft Lopi-esque look to the finished fabric and a softer, almost faded look to the yoke patterning which I find quite delightful. Byre is a blend of Jacob and Shetland fleeces creating a beautifully soft, airy, tonal, naturally grey yarn. It is dyed in-house by Susan's daughter, Charlie, in a wide range of shades inspired by the farm landscape - both organic and industrial - so familiar in the Lake District.
Jocosa is shown here in Colourway One using shades; Dry Stone Wall held together with Mist in its natural shade of Mallow plus Night Sky, Room Of My Own, Dungarees, Clay, Undergrowth, Red Sky in the Morning and Hay Bale again all held together with Mist for the colourwork yoke and decorative cuffs.
